Join The Education Trust for the webinar: Educator Diversity: Why it Matters and How to Make it Happen.
According to recent federal data, people of color make up roughly 37% of the adult population (age 18+) and 50% of children (< 18) in the United States, but just 19% of the nation’s public school teaching force. This disconnect between the racial diversity of our nation and lack of diversity in our teaching force is a long-standing inequity that will take a significant effort to improve.
For part two, we’ll feature a panel of teachers from around the country who contributed to Kappan’s recent special report, “Building a More Ethno-Racially Diverse Teaching Force". Panelists will share their work in schools & districts and as educators of color.
Panelists will include:
Julia Burrola-Ortiz, Math Teacher, Albuquerque Collegiate Charter School
Takeru “TK” Nagayoshi, 2020 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year
Andrea Thomas, 3rd Grade Teacher, Central Consolidated Schools District
