Workshop: Implementing Remote Employment and Work-Based Learning During Incarceration

Join us for a dynamic and interactive virtual workshop exploring remote employment and work-based learning opportunities for people who are incarcerated.

This event is organized around our newly released implementation guide designed to support corrections officials, higher education administrators, potential employers, and aspiring student–professionals in exploring and implementing such opportunities.

Workshop Agenda:

Opening Session (~30 min)

Hear directly from two of the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated lead authors of the guide as they discuss its creation and purpose, featuring Victoria Scott and Abdi Awad.

Breakout Discussions (~65 min)

Participants will choose one of three facilitated breakout rooms (with lots of time for Q&A):

  1. Corrections
Featuring Mara Sanchez (Alliance of Higher Education in Prison and contributing author of the guide) and Macy Pickman & Jennifer Brunenn (Kansas Department of Corrections)
  1. Higher Education in Prison Administrators
Featuring Ved Price (Alliance of Higher Education in Prison and contributing author of the guide), Ramieka Robinson-Peoples (Goucher Prison Education Partnership), and Adrienne Taylor & Shon Holman-Wheatley (Tennessee Higher Education Initiative)
  2. Employers
Featuring Natalie Aragonez (Alliance of Higher Education in Prison), Haley Shoaf (Unlocked Labs), Lauren Hansen (Adams State University)
Closing Session (~45 min)

Guide lead authors Victoria and Abdi will reconvene to share insights from the perspective of incarcerated students, centering their voices and offering concrete suggestions on how all stakeholders can best support their success.
