Campbell University: Site Coordinator/Advisor

The Site Coordinator/Advisor provides support, advising and counseling for students, and supports and problem-solves for faculty teaching in the program. The Coordinator/Advisor is instrumental in guiding incarcerated students to success in their program, and identifies and provides resources needed for success. In addition, interfaces with staff at the prison system and at Campbell University, under the direction and with the support of the Assistant Dean of Prison Programs.

This position involves working at the Sampson Correctional Institution, with regular (weekly or semi-weekly) travel to and from the main Buies Creek campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as advisor to students in the Sampson prison program, including teaching the COSU course and guiding students through their courses and programs.
  • Coach students in interpersonal behavior, communication skills, working with faculty and others.
  • Discuss future employment with students, and how degrees will help them. Interface with Career Counseling services and re-entry service providers.
  • Interface with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), communicating needs and challenges to faculty and staff within Adult & Online Education (AOE).
  • Interface with faculty, communicating needs and challenges to staff within AOE and DPS.
  • Trouble-shoot problems and challenges for faculty teaching in the program.
  • Coordinate and arrange for resources and student support from different units within Campbell, such as Student Support Services (tutoring) and the Campbell Library, as well as with AOE.
  • Determine needed resources, tools (e.g., calculators) and textbooks, and purchase them as needed for instructors and students.
  • Enter data into the university IT systems such as Blackboard and Colleague.
  • Regularly pick up materials from Campbell (e.g., library resources, textbooks, calculators, classroom resources) and bring them to Sampson and back for distribution to faculty and others.
  • Assist the Registrar with graduation process, including conducting graduation audits, assisting with the organization and implementation of graduations at Sampson, etc.
