The Justice Arts Coalition (JAC), a grassroots nonprofit that serves as a unifying body for people engaged in artmaking in and around carceral institutions across the US, is seeking a full-time Co-Director. The individual hired to fill this position will join the Founding Director as an equal partner -- an expression ofJAC's deep commitment to cultivating a collaborative, non-hierarchical staffing structure. Together, the Co-Directors will work on planning, coordinating, and implementing JAC’s mission in a manner that upholds organizational values of equity, inclusion, and collective care. This vital work comes during an exciting time of growth for JAC and allows for an opportunity to further develop and strengthen its foundation. We plan to bring on a third Co-Director to round out the leadership team within the next two years.

Through the sharing of stories and resources, and by using the arts as a bridge between people inside and outside of prison, Justice Arts Coalition unites teaching artists, arts advocates, and currently and previously incarcerated artists and allies, harnessing the transformative power of the arts to reimagine justice. JAC's work stems from the premise that art can serve as connective tissue, weaving its way back and forth through prison walls to foster and strengthen relationships between people inside and out. It can remind us of our shared humanity, of our common struggles and sacrifices, and that every one of us has unique gifts and a unique story to share. To create a work of art, a song, a dance, or a poem within the repressive confines of prison is truly a courageous and liberatory act -- a reclaiming of identity, of possibility, of worth; a demand to be visible.
