Standing Up for Racial Justice: Multiple Positions

The National Phone Bank Director will maintain and grow SURJ’s national phone bank program that will play a critical role in securing electoral victories that fight the Right and advance racial and economic justice. The Phone Bank Director will work closely with the Electoral Campaign Director to build phone bank infrastructure at the national and state level to accompany the on-the-ground organizing and field plans. This role will play a lead role in growing the national and state-based phone bank infrastructure. This will require scaling up and bringing on new staff, while retaining the systems, approaches and culture that has been critical to SURJ’s success to date.

The Eastern Kentucky Field Organizer will engage with voters near Ashland on issues in their area and electoral possibilities. A successful person in this role will build a base of support in the area that contributes to long-term power building for poor and working-class people and SURJ’s electoral priorities in 2022.

The Georgia Statewide Organizer will play a lead role in expanding SURJ’s issue and electoral organizing in Georgia. The position will focus on dramatically expanding the organization’s base in rural communities, developing campaign strategy, and moving people to take action on chosen issues as well as for key electoral races in 2022 and 2024. The position will train and coach SURJ members in core field and phone skills and has bottom-line responsibility for building out new electoral campaign programs that contribute to getting Republicans out of office in GA, building support for economic justice initiatives, and electing progressive champions in the state of Georgia.

The Major Gifts Officer oversees donor prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for donors. This role will engage with all donors, but will especially focus on donors who contribute between $1,000 and $50,000. In addition, the Major Gifts Officer will collaborate with the Development Team to continuously improve development infrastructure and build new models for meaningful donor engagement. The Major Gifts Officer is an important role as part of the donor “pipeline” between membership and major gifts.

The Deputy Director of Communications, is a new position to support SURJ, to grow their communications and narrative change work. Reporting to and collaborating with the Communications Director, this person will implement SURJ’s media relations and campaign communications work. This is a leadership position, requiring sharp strategy, tactical execution of comms best practices, and an organizing approach to working with staff, members, and other stakeholders. An ideal candidate has alignment with and the ability to articulate SURJ’s theory of change and mission, and strong campaign communications experience.

The Development Database Administrator is a new position at SURJ, as they ramp up our ability to track our development data.​​ Reporting to Development Director, the primary role of the Development Database Administrator is to manage the fundraising database, ensuring data accuracy and integrity; oversee gift processing and gift acknowledgment; direct the monthly and yearly development/finance gift reconciliation process; run regular development reports, including weekly giving reports, monthly progress to goal reports, and development activity reports; and manage the donor tracking system and donor research efforts.
