Vera Institute of Justice: Federal Policy

The Vera Institute of Justice, founded in 1961, is a nonprofit criminal justice organization that strives to build just government institutions and safe communities free from the scourge of racism, white supremacy, profit, and inequity that is pervasive in this country’s legal systems.

Vera is hiring a Federal Policy Analyst and Senior Federal Policy Associate (both in Washington, DC). A brief description of each position is below:

  • Federal Policy Analyst: The Analyst will keep track of and analyze relevant bills, executive orders and other policies related to Vera’s federal policy priorities. They will be involved in drafting fact sheets and briefing materials; coordinating federal advocacy engagements; and assisting in the development of a federal policy agenda. At least 3 years of relevant experience in the criminal and immigration justice ecosystems, and familiarity with federal affairs functions, is required.
  • Senior Federal Policy Associate: The Senior Associate will play a lead role in advancing Vera’s legislative goals and managing key relationships in DC, specifically between federal agencies, Hill staff, and DC-based advocacy groups. A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience involving federal policy practice is required, with a preference for work on criminal legal reform issues.
