Community Conversation: Teaching Our Students to be Critical Thinkers

Join us on December 4th at 3pm ET for an engaging, fireside-style conversation between Louis E. Newman and the Alliance’s own Martín Uriarte. Louis is a seasoned educator, former Dean of Academic Advising at Stanford University, and author of Thinking Critically in College: The Essential Handbook for Student Success (2023). In this Community Conversation, Louis will talk with Martín about his handbook, which provides practical techniques to help students from all backgrounds become successful, college-level critical thinkers. Together, they will explore why teaching critical thinking is especially vital for students in prison, who often come from diverse and underserved educational backgrounds. This conversation will shed light on how these skills can empower incarcerated learners, helping them thrive within and beyond the classroom.
