Georgetown’s Prisons and Justice Initiative (PJI) offers transformative education programs for incarcerated students and returning citizens. Through these programs, public events, and research seminars, PJI examines the causes and consequences of the mass incarceration crisis and contributes to bipartisan solutions for effective reform.

Job Overview

The Patuxent Site Coordinator has an essential role in the operation and administration of the Prisons and Justice Initiative’s Prison Scholars Program at the Patuxent Institution. They provide vital program support to the Director of Education of PJI, including off-campus faculty coordination, admissions support, hosting training sessions for faculty and students, and event planning.

As well, they assist the Department Administrator with providing administrative support to the PJI team - including  procurement, onboarding TAs and tutors, and data entry in team databases.

They also establish and maintain a good working relationship - and maintain communication with - PJI staff, faculty, students, and affiliates.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Patuxent Site Coordinator serves as a liaison between Georgetown University and the Patuxent Institution. They work on site at Patuxent Institution to oversee the day to day operations of the Scholars/Bachelor of Liberal Arts Program.

In a virtual or hybrid environment, they facilitate access and support the functionality of the APDS learning management system.

They work across all PJI programs and collaborate with the Director of Education and Department Administrator to provide technical, administrative, and instructional support as needed; and serve as a back-up to the DC Jail Site Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency - preference for a Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years professional work experience
  • Experience with prisons and/or prison education programs
  • Strong problem solving and diagnostic skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic understanding of telecommunications and connectivity options
  • Patience and willingness to teach others with limited technical skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities/projects
  • Program management experience
  • Ability to adapt to changing learning environments – for example, virtual and in person instruction
  • Not currently under post-conviction supervision – for example, parole or probation

Preferred qualifications

  • Mastery of computer programs and design software (Adobe Creative, Google Suite,
  • Airtable, Box, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and detail orientation
  • Some knowledge of DOC policies and procedures (particularly MD and DC)
  • Ability to provide on-site emergency technology support
  • Interest in contributing to PJI research

Work Mode: Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
