Jamestown Community College: Coordinator of Prison Education

Salary: $42,212 - $50,325. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.

Position Description:

Full-time. This position will work in close collaboration with Academic Affairs to oversee all aspects of the prison education program. The Program Coordinator will work to build support for the program among various constituents, be responsible for the program’s financial stewardship, work with the Department of Corrections to ensure the program’s smooth operation and work with incarcerated students to ensure successful participation in the program.

As this is a new position, additional tasks/responsibilities (with the scope of the position) may be assigned through discussion with the direct supervisor. This will be dependent upon the time necessitated by the currently listed duties of the position.

Three to four years of experience in prison education or transition services (or equivalent experience) required. This full-time position is best suited for someone with a Bachelor’s degree in related field of study. Previous experience in an educational setting preferred, but not required.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for overseeing the Prison Education program. Serves as the primary liaison between our partner correctional facility and the college. This position is responsible for overseeing all procedures inherent to the Prison Education program. This position will be the primary on-site presence at CCF and have scheduled office hours. Frequent travel between the facility and college will be required.
  • Serve as the college’s primary on-site presence at Collins Correctional Facility;
  • Coordinate with appropriate college and Correctional Facility personnel to support the recruitment, matriculation and registration process;
  • Develop and implement processes that ensure students have materials necessary for success (books, school supplies, etc.);
  • Implement systems to track Prison Education student progress and connect them to appropriate services;
  • Provide timely feedback to college and Correctional Facility administration to drive program effectiveness;
  • Prepare reports and complete special assignments, as required;
  • Program budget management;
  • Serves as liaison with appropriate community and governmental agencies regarding prison education services;
  • Additional tasks/responsibilities within the jobs scope may be added if time allows, as determined through discussion with the direct supervisor.

Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field of study; Three to four years of experience in prison education or transition services (or equivalent experience); Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to engage with people of diverse backgrounds; Strongly motivated individual who possess an excellent work ethic, professionalism, enthusiasm and a commitment to collaboration and teamwork; Ability to travel with a valid NYS driver’s license; Flexible schedule including evening/weekend work throughout the calendar year; Ability to work independently with strong organizational, management and teamwork skills; Ability to effectively use College Banner database and provide reports; Must be cleared as a DOCCS Volunteer and maintain this status.

Preferred: Previous experience in an education setting
