Prison to Professionals: P2P Postdoctoral Scholar

The P2P Postdoctoral Scholar will be hired to work primarily on P2P’s NIH Community Partnerships to Advance Science for Society (ComPASS) project titled, “Redefining & Investing in Community: Improving Telehealth Care and Educational Programs among People Incarcerated in Rural State Prisons” (1OT2OD035976). This person will help guide implementation efforts, organize HERA teams, and advance all project goals/milestones. The postdoctoral scholar will also assist in building study protocol materials, collecting and cleaning of data, and in later project years, lead mixed-methods analyses. The postdoctoral scholar will attend all full-team meetings. They will be expected to make scholarly contributions to the project depending on the study phase, including contributing to peer-review manuscripts and conference presentations. 

Salary

$56,880-$61,572

General Responsibilities

  • Lead peer-reviewed manuscripts pertaining to the ComPASS project and to P2P’s research work. 
  • Prepare and analyze research data; maintain a computer database of research data; tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data. 
  • Opportunities to supervise other research personnel and students on the P2P Research and Evaluation Team and at JHU (Bloomberg School of Public Health - Department of Mental Health). 
  • Search pertinent scientific literature as needed. 
Additional Responsibilities
  • The postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to develop grants to support their own independent research work, especially if this work relates to advancing the mission of P2P. They will be encouraged to work on at least one grant submission per year. 
  • Participate in training seminars offered through the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health or other professional organizations to strengthen research portfolio and skills. 

Deliverables

  • Co-lead the Maryland and Missouri Health Equity Research Assembly (HERA) advisory and working groups. 
  • Host at least quarterly meetings 
  • Manage agendas for the meetings (store in the P2P cloud) 
  • Take notes for the meetings (store in the P2P cloud) 
  • Prepare documents and presentations for these meetings as needed ○ At least once per year, deliver a presentation summarizing the year to date activities and describing the plans for the coming year. 
  • Draft and submit at least two peer reviewed publications pertaining to ComPASS, P2P research, and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health research per year.
  • Meet weekly with the ComPASS leadership team to provide updates on your progress.
  • In the end of 2025, work with P2P Team Members and ComPASS team members to develop a database of project participants via the CRM system that P2P utilizes (currently Bonterra’s Apricot). 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (or other doctoral degree) in a related field. 
  • Relevant experience in a research environment. 

Preferred Experience and Education

  • 2-5 years’ relevant professional experience working closely with currently or formerly incarcerated populations 
  • Directly impacted by the criminal legal system: 
  • Formerly incarcerated 
  • Any period of time incarcerated in a prison or jail 
  • Criminal conviction on your record with no incarceration time. 
  • Immediate family member (parent or sibling) incarcerated
