Prison to Professionals: Project Manager

From Prison Cells to PhD (P2P) is looking for a Project Manager to be responsible for handling our organization's P2P-ComPASS project (https://commonfund.nih.gov/compass). You will be working closely with P2P-ComPASS team members to ensure that all project requirements, deadlines, and schedules are on track. As project manager, you will be working with internal stakeholders and external clients to define that concept and create a process to bring it to fruition. This includes setting and managing client expectations, developing a detailed project plan, defining the scope of the project, understanding project risks and assigning team members to specific tasks. Responsibilities will also include: submitting project deliverables, preparing status reports, and establishing effective project communication plans as well as the proper execution of said plans. To be a successful candidate, you will need to have proven experience in project management and the ability to lead project teams of various sizes. A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a huge advantage. 

Salary

$58,000 to $71,000

General Responsibilities: 

  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines 
  • Delegating tasks on the project to team members best positioned to complete them
  • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project 
  • Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy 
  • Communicating with executives or the board to keep the project aligned with their goals
  • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected 
  • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinating with cross-discipline team members to make sure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules. 
  • Meeting with project team members to identify and resolve issues. 
  • Submitting project deliverables and ensuring that they adhere to quality standards.
  • Preparing status reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing relevant information.
  • Establishing effective project communication plans and ensuring their execution.
  • Facilitating change requests to ensure that all parties are informed of the impacts on schedule and budget. 
  • Identifying and developing new opportunities with partners. 

Deliverables: 

  • Help meet the milestones of the P2P ComPASS project. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field 
  • Proven experience in project management. 
  • Ability to lead project teams of various sizes and see them through to completion.
  • Strong understanding of formal project management methodologies. 
  • Budget management experience. 

Preferred Experience and Education: 

  • 1-3 years’ relevant professional experience 
  • Masters degree or higher in relevant fields preferred. 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus. 
  • Directly impacted by the criminal legal system: 
  • Formerly incarcerated 
  • Any period of time incarcerated in a prison or jail 
  • Criminal conviction on your record with no incarceration time. 
  • Immediate family member (parent or sibling) incarcerated
