The Petey Greene Program: Division Manager

The Division Manager will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality tutoring services for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students in Washington, D.C. This includes managing several programmatic and university partnerships as well as supervising one Volunteer Coordinator. The position reports directly to the PGP’s Washington D.C. Regional Manager.

In the programmatic aspects of the role, the Division Manager will collaborate and coordinate with multiple types of partners, including higher education programs, reentry providers, and youth detention centers, as well as prisons and jails. The Division Manager is responsible for determining the tutoring needs of program partners and participating students, developing semester program plans, and ensuring tutors and students are matched appropriately.

The position is tasked with monitoring the quality of the tutoring services provided, and troubleshooting issues of attendance, engagement, or academic progress in collaboration with program partners, PGP staff, tutors, or students. The Division Manager will also collaborate with the PGP’s Washington D.C. Regional Manager to collect and track programmatic data, provide regular program reports to funders, and may be required to participate in training or obtain certifications based on funder requirements.

In the role’s supervisory responsibilities, the Division Manager will oversee and support one Volunteer Coordinator in their work to recruit, train, track, and support a portion of the region’s volunteer tutors. The Division Manager is also responsible for maintaining relationships with university partners where many volunteers are enrolled and working with the Volunteer Coordinator to build and support PGP’s campus-based student groups.

Candidates must be based in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area, with ability to travel within the DMV. The role is hybrid, with a combination of work-from-home days, meeting days in the community or at partner sites, and in-office days at a coworking space.

POSITION TITLE

Division Manager, The Petey Greene Program in Washington D.C.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the week-to-week operations of several of PGP’s DC-based tutoring programs, overseeing the logistics of educational operations, monitoring high-level trends, and troubleshooting challenges
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community partners, university professors and university offices, correctional facilities, etc.
  • Manages relationships with programmatic partners, which includes meeting regularly, managing student referrals, ensuring tutor-student fit, collecting academic data, and coordinating partner-specific onboarding and clearance requirements
  • Works with the Washington D.C. Regional Manager to track and collect programmatic data, provide reports to funder, and fulfill funding requirements
  • Supervises one Volunteer Coordinator
  • Works with Volunteer Coordinator to screen, interview and select volunteers, ensuring that PGP is providing high-quality tutors
  • Supports Volunteer Coordinator in their direct communication with tutors, particularly in regards to a programmatic challenge or canceled tutoring sessions
  • Supports PGP’s campus-based student groups, in collaboration with with the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Works with Volunteer Coordinator to conduct student intake meetings, clarify student goals, and regularly check in with students to provide support, collect feedback, and assess their progress
  • Participates and prepares for weekly meetings with the Washington, D.C. team and all PGP staff

COMPETENCIES

  • Previous managerial experience (experience managing early-career professionals preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person and via email, text, and phone.
  • Attention to detail and extremely organized.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a diverse group partners
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Experience or skills in group facilitation
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Awareness of issues related to mass incarceration and broader educational justice and social justice concerns.
  • A commitment to racial equity, and the rights of currently and formerly incarcerated people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Experience working with or knowledge of the Department of Correction as an employee, partner, or a formerly incarcerated person.
  • Experience working in education and familiarity with pedagogy.
  • Experience working with student organizations.
  • Experience working with volunteers, particularly student volunteers.
  • An understanding of the US criminal justice system and local policies.
  • A commitment to education in confined settings.
