Information about The Sentencing Project is available at www.sentencingproject.org.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Sentencing Project is seeking a self-motivated and high-performing research fellow to provide research support to staff within the organization’s research and advocacy teams, including data collection, data analysis (quantitative and qualitative), and writing. The position is best suited for someone with a graduate degree in social science, preferably criminal justice, criminology, or sociology.

The organization will collect primary data, conduct analysis, and policy briefs in the Fall of 2023 that focus primarily on research related to voting rights of persons involved in the criminal legal system. The fellow may devote some time to other priority areas within the organization, as needed. We seek applicants with strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills, a nuanced understanding of the criminal legal system, and a passion for reform. The fellow should be detail-oriented in both research, writing, and editing. They should be comfortable with incorporating feedback into their work and undertaking revisions based on guidance. Similarly, the fellow may be asked to help review others’ writing, check citations, and provide feedback.

Compensation

This is a part-time position for 20 hours/week at a rate of $20/hr. Applications are due September 20, 2023. The fellowship period ends in late December 2023 but could be renewed in the Spring if appropriate. Fully remote work is possible for the right candidate, but preference is given to applicants residing in the DC metropolitan area.
